Travel update: Goodbye Corpus Christi

So I guess a good blogger would post more than once a month...so I'm not a great blogger but my goal is to try to keep track of all the things we have done while traveling and to give people a good idea of what travel nursing is like with a family. Our last month in Corpus Christi was very busy. We tried to fit every last thing in that we had hoped to do. The hospital James was working at offered him a full time position with very tempting benefits and when he turned that down, they asked him to renew his contract. We just had to remind ourselves the whole reason we are doing this is to travel and experience different parts of the country. This is how we spent the last part of our time in Corpus (which we already miss!):

These were replicas of the Columbus ships (smaller scale)

Padre Island National Seashore- A must see!

The girls are learning how to identify different shells and bones, which was one of the requirements for their Junior Ranger Badge.

We almost decided not to go here. That would have been a huge mistake! This place is gorgeous! Clean beaches, beautiful water and restrooms steps away:)

James and I were way too impressed with this one-legged seagull. We took like 30 pictures of it.

We learned about sea turtles in science last year and now we got to actually observe their release into the ocean!
The workers are waving  those flags/streamers to scare away the seagulls.
Every time one of the little guys would reach the water the crowd cheered.

Fun Around Corpus

We have been in Corpus Christi for about a month now living in a tiny 420 square foot condo. These two facts have caused us to rethink a few things.
First of all, we are going to put off buying an RV and get a bigger apartment for our next assignment. It's nice not having a huge house to clean but these girls need a bedroom...I need them to have a bedroom. And we need more space for school.
The second thing is that James and I have both always lived in rural areas and always planned on keeping it that way but living in an urban area is SO MUCH FUN! It may also be that we live in a tourist oriented part of Corpus. We could go weeks without a car and not get bored. These first pictures are all within the few miles of beach right behind our condo.

Great Blue Heron

There are so many things to see and do that are just a very short drive from us. Most of it is on Shoreline which runs right alongside the bay.

Cole Park

This is a park right on the bay. It also as a skate park next to it

The Art Center of Corpus Christi has free family art time every Saturday. This day we did shaving cream marbling.

The Texas State Aquarium is walking distance from our condo. The first time we went as a family I took my camera but not the SD card so all of these are from the second time when I took Addison by herself.

Sailboat races (or as James calls them Snailboat races)

The Hooks play at Whataburger Field which is only 2 miles away. This was so cheap and so much fun! Alyssa went to a ballgame with us when she was a baby but other than that none of our girls had ever been to a baseball game. Behind the outfield there was a Christian band playing and there were all kinds of fun things for the kids to do.
